Ricardo's Glory

The day started out like any other. Ricardo showed up 15 minutes early, Reiko got lost trying to find the office that she comes to every day, Simon spent the morning talking about his bathroom exploits, and Mike complained about having only a dual monitor setup, as opposed to a three-monitor deal.

Dave, who was supposed to show up at 8:30, didn't.

Around 10:00am, we realized the inevitable. Dave wasn't coming. No matter how much we hoped and prayed, Dave wouldn't be coming. Tears were shed. We took stock in our lives. We re-evaluated our priorities.

As we sat there crying, we realized in a moment of satori that we were looking at it all wrong. Sure, Dave wasn't coming. But Ricardo did come! Ricardo not only came, but he came 15 minutes early!

I immediately commissioned Mike to design and develop an award for Ricardo, aptly named The Better Than Dave Award.

Mike developed a Better Than Dave Award using a yellow post-it and a Genuine Bic brand "Velocity" ball pen (black ink, for added seriousness). He inscribed no less than three stars on the award.

First off I’d like to thank God, but more importantly I like to thank Dave. Without him none of this would have been possible… umm, receiving this award has been a long time coming for me. Ever since I was a little kid, a little ragamuffin, I used to dream about being better than Dave. Sometimes; however, that seemed nearly impossible and more than once I almost gave up, but my dog, Arrow, never allowed me to do that. So I’d like to thank you as well Arrow. If only we had practiced that ‘leap of fate’ trick with like a safety net or something… and maybe not lit the ring on fire the first time… although I’m pretty sure the fall alone was more than enough even if that squirrel did soften the impact a little bit… you’d still be here to share this moment of joy with me. This one is for you Arrow… for you.

Oh yeah, I’d like to thank the rest, John, Mike, Simon, Reiko for all your support this morning, etcetera etcetera.
