I collect cook books my favorite is called "The Amish Cook"
The cool thing about it is there is actually stuff to read about this woman's life along with the recipes. For instance she talks about how her husband was drafted...
I had no clue that could even occur.

There's this one cookbook I have that is kind of neat. Can't remember the name of it though. It has recipes for popular dishes at restaurants.
Or...you can never go wrong with a dessert cookbook Who doesn't like treats?

You could also just get a gift certificate for Pampered Chef and let her pick a cookbook out herself.

this looks like outright spam, but you could give your mom some personalised full-year horoscopes.
something she wouldn't have thought of for herself.
(go ahead, click my link)
last christmas, i gave my boyfriend a cookbook, all recipes for risotto.
Throw in some cayenne pepper or oregano powder or any other spice in shakers, with your gift.

If she's looking to lose weight, get her a weight watchers cook book or a south beach diet cook book. They're both pretty good.

Joy of Cooking is excellent and in my personal collection. Make sure she hooks you up with some of the creme puffs Easy to make and people always are overly impressed.

My mother screwed up making Jello, and rice with a rice cooker. (You add rice, water and press a button - she forgot to press the button.) No cookbook for her.
My dad's the cook.

I am sooo hungry right now. It is partially, I think to blame for all you people talking about food! I cannot cook because if cooking begins it is soon followed by the voracious anger. There are many things I want to eat right now. I want to eat a big cheeseburger with onions, mustard, relish, pickles.. anger.. anger...sooo hungry! If you have something good to eat please send it to me now.
