Dinnerware sets
http://www.geolinonline.com/activepa...ProductId=5624
Just found those and bought a bunch. Seven big plates, seven small plates, and 7 bowls.
Then I get thinking, what is the standard set? Ten? 12? I mean, if you break a few, the whole set is worthless, eh?

Well, if you buy them as a whole boxed up set, they usually come with 4 or 5 place settings. Seperately, you can obviously get as many as you want or can afford. Whenever I buy dinnerware though, I always get double so that there are extras. It comes in handy if something breaks and if you have a larger group for dinner. So I like to have enough for 10 settings.

I tend to go with 12 .. but that's just me .. means you have to run the dishwasher less often ...

4 or 6 or 8 is standard here.
If I was investing, I'd tend to get 8 or 10 or 12.

It seems any number you get, you could end up being short. You buy 12, you're bound to have 13 over for dinner sometime.

Never 13. That's bad luck.

When I was single I owned one plate and a plastic fork. Friends used to laugh at me because even when it was down to just two prongs left I refused to spend money to replace it.
I say that so that you know this isn't coming from an expert, but I'd get the highest count available for the break factor.

Gotta say that's smart - thinking for the future.

I use paper plates so I never have to wash them.
And tin foil on oven trays so they never have to be washed either.
Or put cling film over a regular plate so it doesn't need to be washed

Depends on how big your family is. Right now, with my hubby's immediate family (and without the little kids) we have 11 of us. So my 12 piece set isn't going to work for too much longer. 3 of his siblings still have to get married.

It's a matter of necessity. Have many dinner parties, John?

When I run for Prime Minister of Japan, I expect to have many foreign dignitaries over for dinner.
