I want a puppy

I've been thinking about buying a puppy recently.

Any suggestions of what breed to buy? I like Boston terriers and French bulldogs.

I don't like Chinese Crested Hairless - See pic. Yikes that dog is ugly.

I want a puppy, too! (though, I already have 2 dogs)

I was going to suggest my breed of choice; the Havanese, but, based on your choices, it looks like you're more drawn to the flat-coated, squashed-nose variety dogs.

Keep in mind, those kinds of dogs shed constantly, and their coarse, oily hair embeds itself into *everything*. Also, they wheeze and slobber a lot - and they also tend to have breathing problems. My cousin had a Boston Terrier which had numerous health problems, then had to be put to sleep. She now has a Pug, but the dog is horrible and dumb as a stump. Also, extremely gassy, which is always fun when one has company over.

I agree with you do-over. And the cost of Vet bills these days are more than a check-up at the doctors. I like a dog with a little bit of toughness to it. I'm not really into the cute little fluffy dogs!

The Japanese are quite fond of the Shiba-ken. Doesn't look to friendly to me though.

Either way it will have to be a small dog as there are no backyards in Japan for the dogs to play in.

Ohh...the Shiba Inu! YES! What a cutie!!

My neighbors have one of those - it's a great dog. Very quiet and friendly. He's about 18-20 pounds, I think?

Now I'm wondering if they brought their dog with them when they moved here from Japan a couple years ago, or if they bought him here. It just occurred to me - they've always had him since day one of moving in.

Look at these little guys. I'm in love!!

I'm a cat girl by experience, but I'd love a Puli - temperment of a cat.

Ah cute! A dog that doubles as a mop

If you get one, you should name it Ziggy Marley.

They're awesome Laura. I want one!

What's with the new designer dogs - have you heard of Labradoodles, Aussiedoodles, Doxiepoo...the list goes on and on.

lol @ Cricket and chicgeek! I was just teasing - they really are cute! I never met a dog I didn't like.

@ seda, my friend has a Goldendoodle - BUT, here's the amusing part: it's a Golden Retriever combined with a miniature poodle! That had to be a challenging conception.

I don't know if the dogs are getting down and dirty with the whole doggy style action - probably more likely that the dog was impregnated with a needle by a vet.

That seems infinitely more logical than the step stool I had envisioned

My dogs were made the old fashioned way. Their mama was a gorgeous Brindle Pit, but she was a bit of a tramp. Their daddy was a one night stand, probably a traveling salesman.
