New member introductions: What makes a good one?

My idle, devil ridden mind, is curious again.

What makes a good introduction, let us give the newbies some tips.

Or if you had to introduce yourself to the forum again how would you do it?
(an example paints a better pictures).

(Remember: Introduce yourself not your site. )

Mine is probably long gone by now but I would go with;

1, Your name,
2, Where you are from,
3, A little about yourself,
4, Likes and dislikes - (maybe)
5, What brought you here.

That should do it and should be just about the right length

- links
- ALL CAPS
- boldface and colours
- questionable avatars

John's optimization techniques may be different but I'm not sure if i'd go as far as calling him a cowboy?

I think it's best if they include their full name, address, social security number, sexual orientation and blood type. Otherwise, it seems like they're hiding something.

Don't take Do-over and exweso seriously, I am sure they did not mean it.

But I do think a little information about yourself, such as the details in your profile that you are willing to give, helps to break the ice a bit. It gives us a chance to see what we have in common immediately and so allows us to say welcome properly. Some people give very little and it is difficult to say anything apart from 'welcome' and when you are trying to make contacts, or perhaps even friends, it makes it more difficult. G10's five suggestions are also very good.

I think Cricket's introduction above, while tongue in cheek, is a good example; it is short, pithy, honest and true, it sums up a beautiful lady, beautifully.
