I do think though maybe when she gets older she might have a change of mind
|
It doesn't take getting old to have a change of mind. Over half of all marriages end in divorce.

It isn't ordinary these days, but back in the day it was pretty common. Personally, I don't see that much wrong with it. To each his own. Stereotypically, women like to get with older guys, and men like younger girls.

Most certainly, I think a lot of older people look at it like its fine, but then some people that are more up tight about life in general might think there something wrong with it, and then you'll get the guy that says its not right, but hes thinking in his head man that guy is lucky just because he don't want any one to think anything about him.
I think its fine, it might seem kind of odd, and weird cause of the age difference, but hey what ever floats there boat. My father married a 20 year old when he was 35, my grandfather dates a 42 year old, and hes 67.

I don't think it's a problem age difference so much as her age period.
The way I see it, the 16 year old really isn't old enough to make this decision. Hell, she couldn't even drink at her own wedding. And the 40 year old should know that. I came out of teenagerdom not incredibly long ago and looking back it seems I knew so little.
But then again, I'm all for "no marriage until 20", sex aside.

No offense, but how can you possibly no what maturity is like at 40, seeing as you are less than 30 yourself?

Seriously, you need to write that down somewhere and re-read it in 10 years.
My uncle married a 23 year old when he was 46. This means that when he was 40, she was 17. Weird? Maybe a little, but now, 16 years later, even though they are divorced they did have a beautiful daughter... and no one thinks twice about any of that. Well... except when I called some 18yo girl "hot" around my cousin once, and she replied "But you're so old... isn't that illegal?", and I had to explain to her where she came from.*
I'm actually more freaked out when I think about the 36yo woman I dated when I was 20. Somewhere out there is a 55yo ex-girlfriend of mine. So strange.

Curious, when do you think people should be able to be in control on themselves? Until what age should they be subject to parental control?

(No, not really.)

Really, I'm curious. I personally think 16 is adult. I was on my own when I was 16. My grandmother was already married at 16. People used to be adults at 16. Now they want to be children until they are 21. Kind of perverse if you ask me.

Hmph. Why not?
Kids can petition the courts to become emancipated, parents (and other family members) can petition the courts to have people declared incompetent... happens all the time actually.

Windy: Hey! You cut in line! I was next!
Girl #1: I did not, I was definitely here first.
Girl #2: Windy, she was there first, I saw here...
Windy: Ok, that's it biatches! You let me go next, or I'm telling my husband and you'll both flunk phys ed!

hmm
Actually Indiana I could be wrong, but I think they just passed the law where age is 16 and up now. Thats what one of my friends was telling me, but who know half the time his mind is in the gutter, or hes been smoking the wacky weed.

The actual age of consent for sex is state specific, and often has to do with how much older the male is. In Florida, for instance, age of consent is 16 as long as either the other partner is under 24, or they are married to each other (meaning 40 and 16 is fine for marriage). It also mean | |
