Talking The eternal problem: the money

What would you do if you'd find a suitcase full of money?
- take it to the police?
- keep it?

I would keep it
This way I would have the possibility of helping a lot of people. really.

By taking the suitcase to the police I would help just that guy who lost it. Not fair.

What would you do?

I will definitely try to report to a news channel

I am afraid to report to cops, since noble and reliable cops are rare here in India.

I wont show myself or bag, but would try to hunt for the real person who lost it. If no one is found, I will try to donate to poor and needy.

I wish I get a Billion of Dollars and no one comes to get it, so that I can help a small portion of what I always wish to...

That depends on a few things:

Is the money marked or traceable? If so, then I would return it and QUICK.

How would I know? I wouldn't. So I would probably return it. Also, how do you know the money wasn't for someone or some organization that is helping people? You don't. Keeping it could possibly harm people. You don't know.

Lastly, how do you know the money isn't some sort of trap? You wouldn't. A huge bag of money sitting somewhere would make my suspicion antenna rise and beep. Something's not right here... hmmm...

The safest thing to do is to return it. That much money will get tracked down. Someone will look for it. And I like sleeping nights.

The era of digital money will probably make such scenarios obsolete...

I would hand it in. As Ewomack said above you do not know whose that money it and what it is for. (In fact I have done on a number of occasions, although I have not found a suitcase full, that would be the tester I guess.)

For instance, when me and Mrs me were about to get married we were off to buy the wedding dress and Mrs me was in possession of the money. Somehow in hunting around in her purse a wad of bills fell out unnoticed. That was all the money we had for a dress. So if the nice old lady behind us had not been so kind, Mrs me would have married me in jeans and a t-shirt.

The reason for ewomack's quote above is that over the last few years in the UK there have been numerous reports of people reporting large sums being deposited into there bank accounts erroneously. Some of them being foolhardy have spent the money only to have the bank come knocking at their door asking for it back and pointing out their rule books.

In effect this is the electronic equivalent of finding that suitcase, you are expected to report it.

I would keep it, but with a twist.

I`d take out all the money, then put the suitcase back where i found it.

My thoughts exactly!

I'd put the money down, then leave the scene and call the police to report it.

If ever I ended up finding a suit case with
a bunch of money, I will not let myself
show to the public, why would I?
I will make the owner show her/him self to me,
then I'm going to talk to him/her privately
I don't like the paparazzi or media buzzing at
me and praising me for what I have done.
I don't like controversy, if you are going to
help someone make it sincere.

Finders keepers my friends.

I'd take the money to the local casino, exchange it for some betting chips and launder that money until it was sparkling clean!

I wouldn't spend a penny on charity. Just completely indulge myself with materialistic items, fast cars, women and yachts!

If there's absolutely no way of tracing the money back to me, then I'd keep everything.
Whoever dropped it must've more of those where it came from and wouldn't mind me keeping what he'd lost.

Imagine all those things you can do if you'd have all those money... hehee

if your first thought is: "Are they traceable?" or "Are they marked" then you should go to the police and report it as Ed would do or leave them there...

but if your first thought is: "Thank you...(whoever dropped them or forgot them there)!" or "wow! What a great chance to change my future!" then you should keep it.

I think this all depends on the personality of the person that finds those money...

I wouldn't be able to keep it. I cashed a check one day, only to get home and realize that they had given me $400 too much... I jumped back in my car and took it back. I can't keep anything that doesn't belong to me, no matter how small the amount.
