Have you had an out-of-body experience?
"Experts have found a way to trigger an out-of-body experience in volunteers.
The experiments, described in the Science journal, offer a scientific explanation for a phenomenon experienced by one in 10 people."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6960612.stm
1/10 that is an amazing number of people. If you have had one of these experiences I would love to hear about it.

I've never experienced that, I wish i did, but hey, it seems that I'm in those other 9 ...
On the other hand, I would like to experience that "Teleporting" stuff..(I'd move out instantly )

I did once a very long time ago. Bumped into a guy from Mongolia exercising his yak. Said I needed to keep in touch with my TLD name.
Never could figure that one out.
BTW Costin: that is only true if the majority is right.

I have had many out-of-body experiences. In fact it is part of my spiritual/religious practises and I have those experiences quite regulary.
I would not recommend it to anyone because of legal implications but the use of DMT and Ayahuaska is known to do exactly that.

If you don't mind me asking Ferre what is it like, what happens and how to you get back?
TheGamersLink: why short sighted?

It's like you enter a totally different dimension than the one we experience in our daily lives. This dimension is populated with god-like creatures which the experienced user can communicate with. Unexperienced users are usually way too impressed by the enormous amount of overwhelming visions and colors they experience, but when getting used to the "invironment" one can direct it a lot more and start to explore it.
The Mayas and Astekes used it to communicate with their gods, and their art is clearly inspired by those experiences. Shamans still use it to enter a resource for knowledge which can only be gained by this experience.
It's not easy to explain to anyone who has not experienced it, it's like explaining sex to a virgin, they would not really understand untill they have experienced it themselves.
To get back is very simple, as soon as the effects of DMT or Ayahuaska fade out, you get back to your "normal" state of mind.
A DMT experience doesn't last long, 15 minutes to half hour tops, Ayahuaska lasts longer, can be up to 4 - 6 hours.

Fascinating stuff Ferre, thank you.
It seems what is being described in the article at the top of this thread and what you experience is somewhat different. Your experience seems much richer in content and to be able to control it and interact with other 'god-like creatures' as you put it is very interesting.
I'm wondering if what these researchers have reproduced is the same thing or an altered form of the experience?

I couldn't tell, it would take a couple of test subjects who have experienced both to be able to make any kind of comparison. Fact is that the DMT experience has been described by numerous people on various geographic locations during the centuries and those who described the experience all describe the same "world" and from my own experience it does give a person a totally renewed view on important things like religion and reality. Somehow it enhances the ability of understanding the metaphisical world as well as our connection with the energy source which feeds all life.
It also made me understand complicated issues in such an easy manner that I had no problems at all getting my science degree in chemistry when I was young and studying it at univerity. The best way I can describe it is that it gives people a universal awareness. Not a "believe" but a "Knowing" and it rules out beliefs based on myths simply because of the greater understanding of reality which it enhances.
Having said that, I'm also very much aware that it takes a very sound, independent and analitic mind to coop with it, it's definately not suited for the mentally challenged and those who have a weak personality. People who lack intellectual self confidence should steer away from experimenting with psychoactive substances and entheogens. It can mess them up even more than they already are.

Ferre, aren't those experiences more "out of mind" versus "out of body"? When you're under the influence of psychoactive substances, how do you know that your experiences aren't merely hallucinations?
