I do! Listen to that kind of music all the time, love those Paul Van Dyke remixes but the clubs here don't ever play them!
It's all commercial crap!
I crave the hard core trance raves, but they are sorely lacking here!
yep, i hate that commercial crap, they give electronic music a bad name.

Now where's the guy who likes old country music? He & I would most likely be the only two here that can appreciate this music.

The music industry exec's and big city lawyer's have a strangle hold on what get's radio & tv play. More than ever they control what you hear and what you buy. But what about all that don't fit the mold? How many people seek out independant artist? Very few, I'm sure. Most just accept what the record companies hype as hip and cool or is it "thick".

I'm still trying to discover all the music recorded between 1920 & 1970. I might add that record companies don't make these recordings easily available, because they are targeting the 10-30 year old age group who could care less about this music.

We need more music appreciation taught in our schools. Our kids need to take back their minds and stop letting the record companies brainwash them into this narrow minded thinking that if it ain't rap it ain't worth a crap.

Music is one of the greatest gifts experienced in our life. I feel fortunate to equally love and appreciate all genre's of music. When I hear someone say "I can't stand that twangy country music or I hate jazz" I understand their indifference comes from a lack of musical education. I don't mean this negatively. In an effort to understand and appreciate different forms of music, one has to start with the roots. Take for instance blues. Start with Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson and Son House to name a few of the first delta bluesmen. There would be no rock & roll without this foundation. Then came Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson who took music to a different level with the so called Chicago electric blues. It wasn't long till Chuck Berry came along and infuenced people like the Stones and Beatles and virtually anyone that picked up an electric guitar. Country music borrowed from blues, blues from country, rock from blues, etc, etc. There's an old saying "The blues had a baby and they named it Rock & Roll.

Back to the country. The old days of country stem back to Jimmy Rodgers who was greatly influenced by the old blues singers, especially Leadbelly. Then take for instance Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys or Milton Brownie. Man these cats were jazz players. Big bands doing country with a swing beat. Actually many of the musicians in the old country bands came from a jazz background. Hank Garland for one and Leon Rhodes who went on to play with Ernest Tubb & The Troubadours. These two guys rank as being two of the greatest guitar players that ever lived, altho there were many, many more.

All that jazz. What can I say except, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Paul Desmond, Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson, on and on. Luv it.

Or all the great R&B such as Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Irma Thomas, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, James Brown etc. Or gospel such as Mahalia Jackson, Mavis Staples, The Swan Silvertones, The Five Blind Boys etc.

My children have been exposed to all forms of music since they were in the womb. Needless to say, they appreciate and like all genre's of music. I visit our public elementary school leap class about 3 times a year, where I talk to the kids about the history of blues and play some examples of the music. These kids soak it up like a sponge. They seem to be very interested in learning and sit mesmerized listening to the stories of these great blues legends. I find this very rewarding and am thankful to the teachers for providing the kids with some musical education, otherwise it is very doubtful they would have any exposure to this form of music.

I won't list my favorite music, I don't think this forum would hold it all.

My favorite quote. Interview with Harlan Howard

Interviewer: "Mr Howard, what's the secret behind writing all those great country songs".

Harlan Howard: "There ain't no secret son, it's jus three chords and the truth".

yeah, I'm with you guys. here in Amsterdam there are lots of good raves and parties. Commerce did have a bad influence and we have those huge events but the real good parties are still organised, more underground now, mostly in squatted industry buildings (we still have a few of them) And if you ever have the chanse to come to Amsterdam in the summer, go to www.dancevalley.nl that's really worth it when you like trance and raves. Imagine 40 000 people in an open air party and all the best DJ's of the world.

here are pictures from last year :
