Think of the advances and leaps in technology and society that have happened in those 400 years. It throws that age into sharp relief.

400 years? what an aged creature! it must have been lucky to survive for 4 centuries.

I doubt clams get bored easily or indeed do much pondering. But it is astonishing it lived so long.

The previous clam aged 374 then the new one break it with 26 years longer.
