If someone offers you 1000 directory submissions there is no guarantee that all 1000 directories will accept your application for submission and link to you.
A decent directory service will provide you with a spreadsheet of all directories to which your site was submitted. Directory services do not usually track application approvals and rejections. To complicate matters, many directories require that you confirm your application via email. This means they will send you an email and you have to click a link to confirm your application attempt.
As a directory submission service provides your email address during the application process, you are responsible for not only confirmation of your applications, but tracking against the final spreadsheet the submission service provides. You will get the approval and rejection emails directly from the directories. Some directories do not respond to your application. Some take weeks, some months.
You can attempt to obtain a count of your backlinks by navigating to
www.google.com and searching for them:
Example: Search for the following:
link:www.v7n.com
Note: Please replace
www.v7n.com with your site url.
I've found that this search method doesn't necessarily provide an accurate representation of your backlinks.
