Love comes in many different forms. Romantic love is probably what comes first to people's minds, but there is also the kind of love that you can have for your child or family, and the love you have for close friends.
In any case, it's not a word I throw around lightly. If I say I love someone, that pretty much means I care for them deeply, and I'm willing to do (almost) anything for them, and probably put their happiness and well-being before my own. I'm fiercely protective and loyal to those I love.
