I think IF Vampires do exist, then it is safer to think that Vampire Slayers exist also.

I probably would be more prone to believe in the possibility of there being Vampire Slayers out there though. You know, people who call themselves 'Slayers' of these Vampires.

The one thing I see wrong with all this is that the ones they hunt and call 'Vampires' may just be people with genetic dysfunction and illnesses. Then, these 'Slayers' would just be out there slaughtering innocent people -those who could not help but to be born with unfortunate abnormalities.

The quote, and the article, are somewhat misleading. What they actually say is that porphyria is a condition (actually it's a group of conditions) that cause symptoms consistent with some traits attributed in folklore to vampires. NB these traits are all physical disabilities - sensitivity to sunlight, e.g. - and none of the superhuman abilities attributed to vampires, such as strength, longevity, or the ability to feed off other people physically or metaphysically, are characteristic of porphyria victims.

The article muddles quite a bit, including the distinction between the hereditary and acquired forms of porphyria. A much clearer overview of the disease can be found at the website of the American Porphyria Foundation.

I think there are a lot of sick individuals out there who imagine they are vampires - there are so many sites and groups for 'so called' vampires and it seems to be a growing trend. Most of them have watched too many films and are swept away by the glamour of vampirism, a bit sad really
