Firefox being a hog.
Hi,
Firefox is taking up 256,660 K Memory & keeps jumping up and down for CPU.
Any reason for its high memory usage?
Any way to decrease it?

I came across this myself. It's a pain as it bogs down my old FrankenPuter something awful.
Some things that will help: - Keep the number of open tabs to a minimum. Each open tab uses a certain amount of memory.
- Keep the number of addons (Firebug, Developer plugins, 3rd party toolbars, etc) to a minimum.
- Restart FF periodically
As I understand it, FF3 addresses the memory problems.

Been running into this issue myself and most of it comes from the addons you have. Also by how many sites you may have loaded that require a lot of memory to load.
Good write up SL

It depends on which part you look at... lol
During a computer disaster about 1.5 years ago, I managed to rebuild my system from the dead bodies of 4 other computers. Nothing fits properly, so it's just a bunch of parts and cables sitting in the corner.
The only parts in it I purchased new were the hard drives. One is 4 years old (80Gb) and the other is about 2 years old (160Gb). Everything else came from dead machines that over the years had been given to me. So no idea on how old that stuff was.
It's a 2.0Ghz MoBo, so most stuff I need runs fairly well.

Noticed the same in my case. And when I've open more than ten tabs at a time.

It is so much better, but it crashes all the time. It was still in beta then so I suppose it deserves some slack.

You should find that with a black theme, like redshift v2 (the one I use), that you will get a better cpu usage. Black doesnt require a lot of bright lights and so forth, this also works for your standard desktop. I would turn some add-ons off if it is running too slow, or even unistall them. I suggest keeping these ones though:
Fasterfox - Must have
Adblock Plus - Must have
Firebug
All-in-One Sidebar - Makes life easier
And the good old Web Developer
Be aware if you have more than about 7-8 add-ons turned on it will start to run slow. I also find having a higher number of tabs open slows it down quite a bit. Once I get somewhere between 7-10 tabs open I start a new window. Make sure you orgaise your toolbars so you have the least amount on the screen, this is why I love the All-in-One Sidebar. Hopefully Firefox 3 will solve some issues. Hope this helps some of you!
