Is the fundamental issue here hypocrisy? Basically people saying "I don't have a racist bone in my body" but when the cameras turn off a slough of slurs pours from them? Basic differences in words versus actions does bother me. A lot of people, including me, do this without even noticing. One scholar calls this "domain dependency," basically, you talk about something in the classroom or in a controlled environment and once you leave that setting you forget about it. For example: it's far easier to be religious in a church than in a bar. It's far easier to be appreciative of other cultures in an HR workshop than at a backyard barbecue. Countless other examples exist. In the US we have a legacy of litigation that usually shuts us up. If a company allows racist behavior it can get sued by individuals or other groups. Like everything else, this has a double-edged sword effect. New laws have helped cut down on overt racism and workplace discrimination. But the "shut up" effect makes covert racism so shameful that many people just keep it inside until it bursts. This is why the hypocrisy in words and action exists. Anyone asked "are you racist?" in a professional setting had better say "no." The same usually holds for social settings. Others, at least some I've talked to, don't think "being racist" is even an issue. But they will deny it if asked in unprotected social settings. Things were probably similar in the McCarthy era. If your boss asked you "are you a communist?" who in their right mind would ever say "yes?" Our deeply ingrained shame culture often keeps us from saying what we actually think.

Well, here's my :

I think it's always OK for someone to have their own opinion(s). But truth will always be truth and fact will be fact. For example, we can teach our children not to lie but then turning around and telling a lie ourselves will destroy that teaching. Because children only learn from what we do, and not what we say. Onward, it is our children who will carry on the future of this world.

Every man has the same capabilities. But to then tell someone that they are above another because of race will cause them to one day underestimate a one who may be just as competitive as they are. So in the long run this type of teaching or practice may prove detrimental.

In my opinion.
