Why you give reps?

Just curious why you give others reps?

- bcs the other person is your friend.
- bcs it was a good post.
- bcs you are just feeling like giving.

or may be something else?

The main reason should be for a valuable post or as a thank you for a working solution to one's problem

I only give people props when either:
A) It's good info and they put a lot into their post
B) If I remember to!

When they help out, make me laugh, or make a good point.

The elusive rep square! - Glittering diamonds scattered amidst the endless sands of forum chatter, or gaudy baubles to gather in a chest and trot out only when the kids are playing pirates? Why not both?

I use them to show that I am loved and need love.

And much as in real life, my love often unrequites. Then I get depressed and start making up verbs...

I used to have a system, now I really don't know why I rep. anybody. I restrict myself to green rep. by and large. Its more of a private one way messaging system for me these days, a way for me to comment on someone's post privately. I could live without it I guess.

In terms of receiving them, the rep. points themselves are meaningless, the comments that are attached are what gets my interest.

I give them out for:
  • Thanking people.
  • A helpful post. Either to the Opening Poster or to myself.
  • Good Information.
  • If a post makes me LOL. (Instead of a post to say, "Good one!")

  • If one makes a good post.
  • If one helps out other members.
  • If one becomes a valued member of the community and a little reminder sent.
  • If one makes me laugh.
I never give rep for any of those....

Plain and simple.........You want rep from me.........Beg me!!!

positive content. If I see a post that just screams "great post" for all the right reasons (helpful to the particular thread, good info in general for the forum, clearly the poster took a lot of time working on the post, etc) then I give rep if deserved.

I do not see rep as only being the word itself "reputation" the act is only called as giving out rep to other posters but it is actually the act of giving comments on how good or bad a poster articulate his own thoughts...
