What is your favorite mod?

If you could only add one mod to your forum, what would it be?

Each person can only name one mod and it can't be a mod that has already been mentioned. Please make sure you read this whole topic before posting.

I would add an SEO mod.

Anti spam bot mod. Much more important than any SEO optimisation, imo.

I am actually working on an Anti-Xrumer script that would be compatible with most major forum softwares. The way I hope to make it work is by identifying that a forum is being accessed through the Xrumer interface, downloading the IP to a central database, and then auto-blocking the IP on all forums that have the script installed.

I would/well have added a donation mod, as I have tried to spare my members from having to look at adds so we completely rely on donations. We recieved over 200 in donations this year, our members are so dedicated!

About how many members donated to make up that amount of money?

I think it was about 50-60 members.

One menber donated 100 out right and the rest donated between 10-20 and then I get the odd 1 here n there.

We remind everyone for donations once every year which covers our sites running costs. We always raise enough.

Plus every year we do a charity auction where 80% of the funds go to maternity world wide & 20% towards our sites running costs. Last year we raised 700, so from our 20% left us with plently of left over funds.

Automatic embedding for youtube videos - that is a must have for any forum.

How do you monitor this? Do you have a problem with people adding adult rated stuff? Do the moderators need to watch every video? Or, do you depend on reports? How badly does it slow a forum down?

I have this installed and I have not noticed any increase in overhead at all. The only thing that can get irritating though is that many videos linked to get removed from You Tube for some TOS violations so you end up with a bunch of videos that don't actually do anything.

As for pr0n and adult related material, I've never noticed a problem.

It also supports much more than YouTube, many of the top video sharing sites can be embedded with this plugin.

A quick reply. It is quite a basic mod that can sometimes be included in the forum software package already, and nearly all forums use it

I installed it on our internal insantforum.net software. Havent heard the techs complain that it's causing any issues and it's been there half a year now.

As far as moderation I'd say you could probably rely on reports (or just keep a close eye on Muddy... if he watches 'em, they prob need deleting).

I dont see this getting anywhere as Xrumer is generally used in conjunction with proxies, and they can be set to change every few minutes...

A fast answer. It is moderately a basic mod that can occasionally be comprised in the forum software carton already, and almost all forums function it.

This is a tough one because there are so many mods...
I would say my favourite mod is a "Thank You" mod which helps to cut down on unnecessary posts that all just say Thanks.

I have to say that Prevent Spam is my favorite mod of all time when it comes to vBulletin. I love the fact it's easily configured to catch anything you put in there (even general url's via [url ). This one mod catches well over 98% of the spam that would otherwise be visible by regular members and helps keep my forums extremely clean.

Any mobile forum mod. I do a ton of forum browsing on the road from my mobile, and it's really great when the forums have an actual mobile version.
