Question Phbbb?

So is phbbb.com basically you go and download the software from the site, then you have to buy a domain to upload the forums onto?

To use phpbb, you need to have a host which supports php + mysql. Depending on your host, you can use their subdomains (usually free hosts offer this) or your own paid domain.

Most paid hosts throw in a domain for free when you buy hosting with them.

Do you own any domains right now? You could put the forum on there if you want to.

Or register a domain and after downloading the forum software you will then have to upload it to the domain. I do think you are referring to this forum software right? http://www.phpbb.com/

You can get more information on the download page located here http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/?sid=...0bd6cd904f93ba

Most paid hosting sites offer an auto install option for phpbb.

Takes all the misery out of it for a newbie.

The only problem you may have is getting support for the official phpBB forum if you install using Fantastico.
