What If Forum You Like Gets Shut Down?

What would you guys do if a forum you liked and were an active member on got shut down? 2 forums I used to frequent often both shut down, and a third one I think it getting pretty close to being shut down as well.

With all the forums out there it is hard to find others to replace that need you were getting from the ones that shut down, so what do you do?

Much Thanks,

BiologyWebmaster

Count your losses and Join another forum I think. Because you have no control on ensuring that the forum stays active, unless if its your forum or are in its administration.

Nothing you can really do in this case. Just try to move on and find another active forum.
Try to stick to forums that have had been online for more than 2-3 years. It is unlikely then that they would drop out of the business.

It's a golden opportunity! If you are already a "star" member of the forum, you probably know many people there who'd be happy to join new community, so contact them and create your own forum...

Many successful online communities started like that.

What would you do if a forum you loved went out of business or was going to shut down if funds was not made available?

Thoughts on what the thread creator has mentioned thus far?

One word, Donate.

If you are active in that forum, you have developed ties and friendships. It would be like losing a family member. When your family has a rough patch, you help them out.

Why not, all the resources are already available. However... Since he is a Biology Webmaster, forums are probably about biology, so we should open a biology section.

Personally if a forum I was active on closed down. I'd just search for another one. Well I don't think I need to search right now because I'm a member of over 40 other webmaster/webhosting forums and it's hard to keep up.

I try my best to be active on all. But some I just hardly post at.

If one I post at frequently closed. I'd probably just move to the one I less frequent and be more active there.

I also run a webmaster forum myself so I'd just post more on the one I run too.

The only thing you can do is to move on, or to try to buy the forum and take care of it. As for myself, if i would really like it, i would buy it.

Hands down, this is one of the best options. I actually did that for another group (I'm not 100% a fan, but wanted to keep this group of people together, since they're awesome).

Just be careful that you don't bite off more than you can handle.
