Xbox 720 Already Lowering Expectations

Quote:
Start figuring your gaming budget for 2013, because the clock is ticking down to the Xbox 720's debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next June. Microsoft's official Xbox blogger Major Nelson has all but officially confirmed this by posting an E3 countdown to his site with a terse three words: "And it's on…"

Tech spec rumors have already started swimming about the Xbox 720's potential 8 GB of memory and a price peg at a possible $299 for next year's holiday season. And it goes beyond the Xbox: speculation about Sony's next move concerning the PlayStation 4 are also skyrocketing now.

For the Xbox, you can also expect some serious upgrades to the...

"Inside this machine it’s said that there will be an AMD octa-core (8 CPU cores) x64 processor clocked at 1.6GHz per core. This processor will be joined by the beastly D3D11.x at 800MHz for graphics as well as 8GB of DDR3 RAM. That means that this machine will – surprise – be a monster in both its ability to process data and display graphics."

IMHO, it will be on the level of modern mid-end PC's. The only thing I hope is that the porting of games from consoles to PC will be more smooth and without mess of glitches and awful optimization (as it has happened with Assassin's Creed 3, L.A. Noir and a lot of 1-2 year old games in which it was not possible to play due to their optimization).

Xbox 720 to Reportedly Require Kinect to Function, Support Multitasking

Quote:
The next-generation Xbox may not only be accompanied by a new and improved Kinect, but may actually require the sensor to function. Kotaku has published an exhaustive report about Microsoft's forthcoming console, lending credence to many prior rumors about the system's performance and features, but revealing new information about how the system may interact with Kinect, as well as its capacity for running multiple simultaneous games and apps.

According to the site's source, SuperDaE, who you might remember as the source of PlayStation 4 devkit rumors last month and attempting to sell a Durango devkit on eBay last year, every Xbox 720 will ship with the next-generation Kinect and will require the sensor to be connected in order to function. The company is apparently building Kinect functionality into the framework of the system, using the sensor to identify players and even accept Siri-like voice commands. This marks a bold new push for Kinect integration, which has been slow-growing for the Xbox 360. As we've heard in the past, Kotaku says that the emphasis on Kinect will come paired with substantial performance improvements, with the sensor capable of tracking six simultaneous players and detecting even the smallest of gestures and facial expressions.

Blocking used games?

I seriously hope that they wise up and remove this.

Mandatory kinect?

I don't know.
