Game Consoles Are Already Dead And Developers Know It

Hmmmm, hey gamers, check out this blog post before you comment on it.

Still blasting away Halo's Covenant hordes on your Xbox 360, or ripping out guts as God of War's Kratos on your PS3? Your days are numbered and I'm not talking about how far you're going to make it in these games.

Game developers, it turns out, are abandoning the venerable video-game console even faster than gamers themselves. The Game Developers Conference, which opens next month in San Francisco, recently asked 2,500 developers about their plans for next-generation consoles. The results were, shall we say, not encouraging for the likes of Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.

Survey Says...

I'm not surprised. Consoles had their time at the top, but the time now belongs to the PC under Windows and a more recent Steam for Linux already boasting over 2 dozen titles.

Indie games on the PC have gained a massive following recently. With the big increase in mobile games and social media games they'd be stupid not to focus more on this.

Would the fact that you can see current stats of people playing PC games now, whereas the next console releases haven't got guaranteed figures yet be a reason? Not saying these console releases won't take off but not everyone with a ps3 and xbox360 is going to buy a ps4 and xbox720.

I couldn't imagine how the hand held mobile games be the competitor among the veterans of game consoles over the years. Mobile games are a different kind of niche and mobile game still made in PC same as the consoles their games are still made in PC .. I agree right that this will become a PC era because the next gen console will have an x86 structure meaning a PC like components.
