Yes, anyone can contribute to the SEO Tip of the Day. It has to be a tip (preferrably one that hasn't been covered already) and not just a comment or question. Please follow the format that has been established.

Another question: is there any way to search an entire thread for relevant terms? Like an in-thread keyword search? That way I can search for long-tail stuff involving what I'll post and avoid a duplicate (without spending hours reading every tip so far, and then forgetting 80%-90% of it).

At the top of each thread there is a link Search this thread. Click it, enter the keyword/phrase and click Go. Or you can use the Advanced search in the pop down that shows.

This is a question about that photo scavenger hunt going on in the photo challenges section on V7N...

I would like to know if it's okay to put my pictures in the form of an explanatory blog post and then link back to that specific post somewhere (probably here on the blog). I'm doing this for several reasons:

*I like to explain my photos (not just these 15) in great detail... especially since my photos never seem to have an obvious-to-anyone-else meaning.
*I'm going to make an actual category that looks like either Contests > V7N > 2011 April Photo Scavenger Hunt or Contests > V7N 2011 April Photo Scavenger Hunt... not sure yet!
*I'm not going to be a liar here: I am also doing it so people can see my blog. Part of the reason is because I'd like the people here that helped me with a few aspects of my blog to actually see what I've done with their help. The other, obviously, is to just get it out there on some level... and I figure why not start on my favorite webmaster forum?

So with those motives, would it be an illegal move to do as I plan with this scavenger hunt's entries?

We do allow you to refer (link) to your blog post (for this challenge) in that thread but we do want the thumbnails posted in the thread also.

I have a rather silly question. If I look at my profile it says I have a referral. What does that mean exactly? I know it sounds completely dumb There's just no link, so I can see what its about.

Well besides using common sense and courtesy, you can read these Forum Rules & Guidelines

Its all pretty basic stuff and most people have no difficulty abiding by them.

I believe,
Either

a ) You put down you were referred here by someone and you put their name in the referred by box when you signed up

or

b ) Someone you know joined here and put you down as referred by.

I can't remember which.

What does a grey dot on your reputation counter mean? Like, people give you green to increase your rep, so I'm assuming grey is bad?

If you are talking about in your control panel, it just means the person doesn't have much reputation themselves yet. Nothing bad. It's still a rep!

Oh, so it's being talked about by someone that nobody really cares what they say?

Harsh description, but that's pretty much what it is, I think. Haha.
