Google No Longer Suggests Directory Submission
I read in other forum about this!
here is the source of the story: hxxp://www.beussery.com/blog/index.php/2008/10/google-no-longer-suggests-directory-submission/
the exact words being said:
Quote:
While Google has condemned buying and selling links that pass PageRank, they’ve encouraged listing in paid directories like Yahoo for years. It seems that era may have come to an end earlier today. The following bullet points have been removed from Google’s Webmaster Guidelines Webmaster Help Center*
* “Have other relevant sites link to yours.”
* “Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.”
Does this recent move reflect a renewed emphasis on rooting out paid links passing PageRank and/or low quality links by Google?
*As mentioned, the bullet points above have been removed from the US version of Google’s Webmaster Help Center. Other versions may not yet reflect this change.

what is your thoughts guys?

Anyways, I don't think Google no longer suggest directories because it's a part of a SEO cycle and a part also on optimization on Google. Maybe that article pertaining about paid directories and I already have some markups about it for the past months in which they quoted "Google hates Paid Links".

No one is against to no one, teewhY is just trying to show the previous discussion about this topic.
If we will not act responsible enough sooner or later we will not enjoy the air in this community?

Googlers answer
There was a live chat with Googlers Matt Cutts and Maile Ohaye.
Quote:
Question: Recently, you removed this suggestion: "Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!" from your guidelines. Is there any chance that you will be discounting these kinds of links for ranking value in future?
Google’s Answer: There's always the chance that we'll discount directory links in the future. What we were seeing was quite a few novice people would see the "directory" recommendation and go out and just try to submit to a ton of directories, even if some of the directories were lower-quality or even fly-by-night directories that weren't great for users. Right now we haven't changed how we're weighting directory links--we've only removed the directory suggestion from the webmaster guidelines.
Translation: Possibly.

Directory submission is good if the link indexed and get BL from it. Google like BL from different IPs.

It's probably not as important, but it doesn't hurt to submit it anyway. Just don't spend too much time on it.

If you make it part of your major link stretegy then you're going in the wrong direction, especially if you pay for it - but as most say, adding say 100 will show up in your backlinks in webmaster tools and as long as that's not 80% of the whole of your links then it's ok. Plus doesn't take too long to find a hundred odd.

Agree with you TeewhY. It is rather old news and there is nothing wrong with pointing that fact out.
Having said that, I still tend to submit to directories.

Directory submissions helps in getting good theme based links from a number of domains and on different anchor text.It is also a good cost effective way of getting good theme based links. If you take listings in niche specific directories related with your site then it can generate traffic and increase your website visibility.

well directory submission links do get recognized by google but it's time consuming
the best way is social media submissions which helps get backlinks quickly as they are uploaded immediately after you submit them and hence generate heavy traffic.

Directory submissions do not need to be tedious. You can always get a cheap or even free semi automation software to achieve this. See free directory submission software.
Social medi works for traffic generation but a lot of them use no follow in their links so the SEO value of the backlinks generated is not reliable
