Targetting a term
Ok, I am targetting the term: christian forum
in google, and I want to know what you think my chances are... I have around 2700 forum post sig links in total that I could use to my advantage.... with around 1000 above PR3...
should I go for this term with all sig links, or just some of them... and is it 'do-able?' (my site is in my sig)
The site is new, and I am waiting for a PR update
Elliot.

I'd guess you'd need quite a few links to be #1, not so many to be top ten.

In google, for "Free Computer Help Forum" I come up number 5 and that is with around 400 backlinks, granted I also have a PR6, I think it would be easier with "Christian Forum".

Well, just take a look at the competition.......
the top one is christianforums.com, they have about 47 links using link: and some of them say: "christian forums" "christian forum".... I don't think that is huge competition... and it is only a PR5, which is what I will be up to on next update i think...

I am going to guess 16 days, but really it could be any time. major updates are usually about once a month but is sometimes a bit eratic.

there usually isn't "decent competition" unless it's a commercial phrase.
it doesn't look that hard to target, really.

christianforums is huge, though... they have thoasands of internal pages linking back to the main page... it may be harder than you think...

The internal links should that be the main targeted keywords of your main page, or can that be any kind of word as long its about your keyword. Damm im exhausted. Just got back from running 10 kilometres.

Well...there's no harm in having a go...but I wouldn't personally put too much faith in signature links. Even if Google says that many of those sig links are PR4+, it doesn't at all tell you how those sig links will actually affect rankings. Go for it - but "christian" as a word stem is going to be pretty competitive, simply due to the sheer volume of Christian sites all linked to from other Christian sites, .edu, directories, etc, and all with years of backlinks built up.
Also - you're using IPB. Bad choice in SEO terms, as they do not index very well. You really need a hacked phpbb or a vB3 or similar to have a fighting chance. (Hey, wait a moment...am I trying to help the competition? ).

I am thinking of doing some branding though, so I need to wait ti'll september... you see, this is just one part of a bigger online ministry project that requires branding, and the forums need to be part of that, so the forums will probably be part of that style.... and I start my new job as a full time christian volunteer worker in september, so I will be thinking of all this more then.

Last update dates were: May 31, June 23....
I guess this update will be something between 16 - 25 July...
Lets see.
But if you have a new site, don`t put so many forum links at once. Google won`t increase your PR much and neither will increase your rankings, get tow or three directory links. They will be going to help you a lot, and use your sig. links in next PR update.
This is just my opinion......
