Google Stats vs. Links on webmaster tools
Hi there,
I'm totally confused on this. When I log into Google webmaster tools under "Statistis"
-Index stats
then I click on the part that says "link:pages that link to your sites front page.

There's only 2 results there!

But when I log into Google webmaster tools under
"Links"
-Pages with external links

Theres 514 links showing to my site. Why the difference?

The first one refers to the link:site command which is inaccurate. Google Webmaster tool also says it is only for links pointing to your front page whereas pages with external links include all pages and is more precise.

If you can trust only one of them, trust the second one.

the link: command is not accurate.. i think those are the recent crawled BLs..

For a more accurate count of the links pointing to your site you should try the link: operator with Yahoo.

For example:
Code:
link:www.yourSite.com
Also another good operator is:
Code:
linkdomain:yourSite.com -site:youSite.com
That last one will show you all the inbound links to your domain and exclude any from your own site, (Yahoo query only).

Google just gives a few links to indicate in general the types of links you had a month or two before, it is not exhaustive or up to date or indicative of the importance it gives to which links.

from the public interface, by the way, yahoo has the best indication of the links. also if you sign up for live.com webmaster tools their internal interface has a good list of links.

Its normal and in webmaster tool google shows after its update, not updating always the external and internal links... but google tool bar always updating can say weekly...I think webmaster tool is updation and BL updation is diff process and they keep it separately..
Also I found when update in webmaster external links effecting in SERP ranking
