Google Chrome V2 - Beta
Well, I took the plunge and installed the beta of Chrome V2.0.156.1.
Some features so far: - New version of WebKit. (version 528.8 or, more precisely, revision 39410)
- Autofill form completion. (Thank you!)
- Spell checking improvements
- Page Zoom. Now adjusts pics along with text. (pretty slick!)
- Individual User Profiles.
- AutoScroll
- Experimental user script support (similar to Greasemonkey).
- New SafeBrowsing implementation.
- Various code optimizations.
A few other problems with V1 have been addressed such as incomplete page loading (mainly due to 3rd party site ads).
The developer console is still a bit lacking. The ability to edit elements on-the-fly (like FireFox's Firebug) would definitely push me to using Chrome full time. Hopefully we'll see this either built in or as an optional addon by the final release.

I'm still wary about using a web browser created by a search engine company. It's like buying a car made by mcdonalds. I'm going to wait a few months and try Google Chrome once they have taken the time to get rid of most of the bugs. Maybe by then it will be good enough to use full time, but for now I am fine sticking with Firefox

Sounds cool StarLab! I'll try that out too...
I mostly use firefox as my default browser. But sometimes I feel like using Chrome once in a while.. Hope it'll get better just like FF.

Actually..I just installed it..and I have been using firefox forever. And just from a initial run through...I think its faster...I like the minimal look....so..I'll use it...see how it's nurtured along by google.
Just my opinion

I've tried chrome before but it ate a lot of my resources. Every new tab I open adds up another process in my computer's resources.

Much faster! FireFox takes up to 15-20 seconds to load on my machine. Chrome is loaded and ready to go with 5 seconds.
Surfing is also much faster. Especially when Javascript is involved:

Plugin support is coming in Chrome 2. It will be up to 3rd party developers to create them, but the support will be there.

Separate tab processes is actually one of the biggest selling points of Chrome. At first this also turned me off, but after watching my Task Manager closely, comparatively speaking it's still more efficient than other browsers.
Plus if one of the tabs happens to crash, you only lose that particular tab. The rest remain in tact.

Chrome is good, but last I checked Firefox (with add ons) leaves it a mile behind the dust. That's worse than getting left in the dust.

Hi,
I am Stella and I am currently using Google chrome and I think it is one of the best hosting servers. It is faster than Mozilla or others. I haven't tried it's new version till now.

Due to the good things everyone said, I went to try and check ot out, but ...
no version yet to work on Linux. They say they are working on that.
So ... maybe I will check it out then.
As for slow firefox. Try this: (at own risk of course. )
Then , to tweak Firefox to make better use of your broadband do the following…
Quote:
1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 25. This means it will make 25 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

from this page: http://www.website.net.nz/post/ubunt...r-web-browsing
Worked great for me.

Sounds nice. If Google can keep the lightweight, compact and performance up to par with a plugins system, Chrome might become FireFox's leading competition.

I have to disagree totally, and even if McDonalds decides to make cars some day, we can trust they will throw a lot of money into it and certain advantages have to come from it. I think it is a very promising project, it should be perfectly integrated with the search engine when it’s complete and may become a unique tool to use with Adwords. It’s also possible that they will throw some exclusive advantages to those using it just to promote it.
