Does Google penalize a site that is down?

i was wondering if google would penalize for not being online. I could imagine that one would get penalized in some sort of a way..

yes, your site dissapears from rankings if it is crawled while the site is down... this has happened to one of my sites, but when the site comes back up, it tends to pop back into the SERPS where it once was.

Ok im having some problems with my host at the moment site been up and down the last week, Im a bit afraid that heads are going to roll on monday when im back in the office...
