Does directory submission really healp PR?
I have a nagging question if the directory submission and having a link there really healp PR, even on a long term?
There are thousands of directories, and 10 new everyday, you can spend your life time submitting to directories and spend fortune if you are so inclined. But does it help?
It would be great if you opine out of personal experience.

for me, yes, just choose what directory you are going to submit. Choose high PR and place your links in proper category for relevancy.

I think it still helps. I've been doing it together with forums and blog commenting and my site is doing okay.

As far as I know, yes, it gives a little help. Some say that it is not that effective nowadays compare before but personally, I would say that yes, it still helps. But once again, it depends on the directories that you're submitting to.

It still helps provided that the directories have high PR and they provide a dofollow on their links (to pass PR juice). But I think its effect is only minimal since most of the categories where your link will be placed have no PR at all.

not all strategies can be helpful, not because people are doing a specific technique is that it would be beneficial to everyone. the good thing for having tools exist is that it can help us see which techniques and which websites works well with us... if you think that one technique is not helping you out, then look ate your stats, its what they are there for. the best strategy is to always know what you are doing and on how it is having an effect on you..

Yes, Directory submission would certainly help you in gaining reasonable PR. But, this particular directory link building strategy should be done consistently on a regular basis.

Yes it does
But don't expect you'd get a high PR just by directory submissions, you may have submitted to high PR directories, but your site isn't the only one listed there. Plus the quality/relevancy when it comes to the category where your link is placed.
For me, directory submission may not give you the biggest boost you want, but by continued submitting does help

I think since the last update, the inner page rank has been zeroed and google has been taking steps not to treat and give less weight to directory pages.

They still helps but not a lot Nowadays, directory submission is getting obsolete and ineffective. I don't put too much work on it, it's almost useless, IMHO!

I don't think directories are near as powerful as they use to be. 5 years ago, they provided good traffic and back links. These days, Google has somewhat devalued their importance and rankings. Some still provide some good link juice, but many are no longer worth the effort. I would focus on the top ones and stop there. I find my time better spent on other SEO based activities like blog commenting or content creation. Just my worth.

Directories that does not add nofollow attribute to their links are still good to increase PR, just make sure your site is listed on the right category.
