the numbers are honestly a bit arbitrary. what really matters is "what they are using to determine relevancy" not "what they are showing as backlinks"
last month they started showing some backlinks that they had blocked the outbound pagerank on.
in my opinion Google is just trying to confuse us by showing random stuff to make it harder to buy links.
|
I quite agree - I haven't seen number like this since last September - but relevancy for ranking purposes simply does not correlate with number of backlinks.
Still, it's becoming kind of funny the way Google tries to mess with people's heads. Ultaimtely, though, it's just going to make people disregard PR as the marketing myth that it has become.
Hey, of course, then people worry less about buying PR...clever Google.

Hi Brian, You are a big supporter of onsite SEO, me too but for my secondry keywords.
For primary keywords I will go for link building and anchor text strategy...
They can never disregard PR.. I mentioned in another thread what they have said...
Ref: http://www.google.com/webmasters/4.html
Google's order of results is automatically determined by more than 100 factors, including our PageRank algorithm...
....
... You may want to check and see if the number of other sites linking to your URL has changed. This is the single biggest factor in determining what sites are indexed by Google
Now you can say.. it is a statement to confuse SEO, or I couldn`t understand exactly...
But one thing is sure, they are surely confusing SEOs.

Brian is not a big fan of on site SEO. he likes getting many many many low ranking links from tons of sites, which add up to be super powerful over time.

You havent felt her spidery touch rubbing your forums up and down all night long. She's woman all right, never on time, has a fit of craziness about once a month, and bases its opinions of people upon other opinions.
You could guess?!

MadHatter - Your quite the comedian,,, Keep it up - your adding some Life to the forums.....

I really doubt PR is going anywhere........... There throughing us off for a little while...... Hoping we'll forget.....
PR is the most significant visible advance in search....

it is too good of a marketing scheme for PR to up and go away. it really will become less important over time though.

On site SEO is great for informational pages - you can hit lots of secondary search terms that way - but the price is that the traffic is often untargeted.
I do very much believe in the power of links - definitely in terms of targeting very precise primary keywords.
As for PageRank - having watched my sites go up and down in terms of PR, I have seen absolutely no correlation between PR and traffic. The relative impact of PR among the other 100 ranking factors seems generally reduced - as with most on-page elements, too.

I can`t disagree with that. PR goes up and down, but rankings of the site should not face much fluctuations. Otherwise it becomes alarming.
I also believe in optimizating complete sites, and distributing keywords all over the site, which not only helps in reaching good Kw density acroos the pages, but also help in visits turning into conversions..
-- Just my opinion --
