Too many pages on a site hurts Google PR

I read an article somewhere that having so many pages in a site loose Google PR because it will be distributed all around the sites pages. Is this true? Because I'm planning to make a 30-50 pages for my website.

Another question, now that Windows XP SP2 is out and installed, is it necessary to not use Javascript. My website use Javascript and it will be a problem. Do you recommend not to use any Javascript and ActiveX?

Hi jtakano,

PR does get distributed through the pages of of a site, but i cant see how adding 30-50 new pages will effect your pr.

If anything your future PR could rise if Google finds new quality pages added.

I do not recommend using javascript for content or links.

each page has a nominal amount of PageRank, but adding pages is not usually the best way to build PageRank if that is specifically your goal.

earlier I was answering the wrong question there. I thought you were talking about making pages to create pagerank. you were asking just the oposite. you do not lose pagerank by having more pages, it just means that your internal pagerank spreads across more pages.

the reason some smaller sites do better than larger sites is because they usually have a rather flat site structure, meaning that most pages are not more than a few links from the home page.

PR depends on the amount of pages linked to the page not linked from the page.

Page has a PR not a site. So if 100 pages link to MyPage.html then PR will be the same no matter how many links to other pages on MyPage.html.

The distribution of that PR between links on the MyPage.html depends on how many links on the page.

If MyPage.html has PR = 6 and only one link to MyPage1.html then PR 6 will be transfered to MyPage1.html. But if MyPage.html has 1000 links to different pages then PR6 will be devided between those 1000 pages.

I see. I understand now. I have another question. I know it will be off topic but just to reduce the no. of new posts of topic.

I wanted to do a redirect from pyroenergen dot com to www.pyroenergen.com . It is because of SEO reasons. domain.com and www.domain.com are ranked differently by search engines. I want all ranking transferred automatically to www.pyroenergen.com . I saw somewhere that it can be done using .htaccess. Please tell me the code that I should use so. I believe it's called a 401 redirect.

I think this link should help adderss this question and another thread besides:

http://www.searchengineworld.com/eng...e_pyramids.htm

It's not about how many pages you have, as much as how you use them.

having a static sitemap linked off the index page will be your best bet in transfering PR to all/most of your interior pages.

means your pages are only 2 clicks away from your index page.

your main pages should be linked off your index page, only 1 click away then.

as has been said more pages = better, if the content is good, layed out right and linked to properly.

Roughly 15% of incoming PR is absorbed and 85% is transferred(*). If subpages link back to homepage, up to 85% of transferred PR may come back.
More pages is better in general imo.

*:something like this

If you are not lazy enough you can make experiments by solving
linear equations in many, but essentially few variables.
