Using TinnaDog's example - yahoo and google seem about as good as each other for 'cell phone insurance'. There are some related links in the Google and Yahoo top 10. The No.1 site on Yahoo is a very short page hosted at Blogspot - so I'd say your friend is very lucky to be number 1 on Yahoo, rather than criticising Google for not having as No.1 - because, to be honest, that site is just as relevant as some of the others in the results.

Google is still the best one out there. If your site ain't ranking well, it's 99% your own fault. Suck it up people...a good workman and all that.

I really dont understand why linking would make a site relavant. I looking at it from the perspective a of an individual doing a search. Logic tells me that just because a site has no coralation to the relavance of the data.

The more I look at other search engines I am finding that the algorithum they use is What Google resembled a year ago. I dont mean to belabor my point but like most by habit it defalted to Google for searches. But as research how people find our site I am amazed at how much more intense other search engines are Ask Jeeves, MSN, Yahoo. I am not speaking as a butt soar Webmaster but as someone who searches the web for good info.

In my opinion what Google is doing could be very damaging to the internet as a whole.

What's hillbilly style? If they're getting good SERPs, I'm ready to try it too.

TinnaDog, all the big search engines take link popularity into account - Google just made a point of really emphasising it.

Link popularity makes sense because it's a lot lot easier to stuff a high volume of keyword-stuffed pages, than to create high volume of keyword stuffed links.

Google saw this - developed this concept specifically - and consumers liked the results it gave.

I do think that the search quality (relevancy) of Google has declined these last few months.

But there could be many reasons for that, and I'm not going to speculate at this time.

Window Licker - Is one of the Mentally Challenged individuals (PC) that has there tounge pressed up against the glass on the school bus.

Hillbilly Style - use your imagination as to its meaning and yes I agree why put the work in if you dont have to get page rank. But it sucks when you do and you dont get it.

Ask Jeeves seems to be working pretty great right now. I dont understand why or how. It reminds me of a day back in 1999 when I discovered a really great search engine after becoming discontent with the search results from Altavista and Northernlight. Google.

Cool Google is a worthless search engine-without a doubt!

I noticed that TINNADOG posted this almost a year ago, but I just have to reply.

Why?.....because 'GURGLE.....OOPS!......I meant Google... has only gotten worse.

I even browsed a forum where the 'Gurgle nuts were praising a Google browser. HUH? I can't see why anyone would use a 'Gurgle browser.

Google’s search engine isn't worth 2 cents anymore. You can't even find today's news stories on 'Gurgle. I can’t even fathom what using a browser from Google would be like. (Maybe like a car with a speedometer that registers 250mph but only has a top speed of 25mph.)

Today I typed in two simple key words in 'Gurgle...."Hurricane Dennis"....what came back was stuff from 1999. And some of the stuff was no where close. One result was for a Sex-Sock.....whatever the heck that is. Another result was for Kick Boxing. What in the world has kick boxing to do with today's hurricane? Only on 'GURGLE can you get quality like this,....My, my, my.....how efficient, huh?

And why anyone would want to try to climb the rankings of a search engine that puts out books on how to submit data is beyond the realm of logic.

I just saw Google for Dummies on Amazon.com. Unbelievable…..there is a whole cult of Google nerds out there that actually believe Google is their web savoir. There are books on Google this and Google that…..it’s totally ridiculous; especially since none of it works worth a ‘krap anyway.

One forum gets over 300 posts when the ‘Gurgle update comes out. Get real….why even bother? Talk about Google sheep....

This whole Google mess is blown way out of proportion for a company that DOES NOT even deliver a service worth beans. Users are what matters and users are jumping the 'Gurgling Google ship like rats.

Everyday I discover more people who stop using 'Gurgle because they know they will not find anything near what they are searching for. Google turns up results that are so obscure it defies logic.

That's what you get with 'Gurgle's new hi-tech aging delay filter. (They ought to just call it aged & delayed.....because that's what it really is.)

Aging Delay........Hmmmm.......aged......old......obsole te....archaic. You won't find any new or cutting edge information on Google because you're guaranteed that anything that turns up is from a site that's already about a year old. There is without a doubt nothing advantageous about old information.

I don't even worry about Gurgle anymore and couldn't care less. I get more than enough business from other search engines without having to jump through the hoops on the 'Gurgle dog and pony show.

Google is all about stockholders now..... .....nothing and I mean nothing could be worse for end users.

But let me tell you how I really feel.

Maybe if you searched for "Hurricane Dennis, 2005" you might have found what your looking for. Maybe it's not Google but the searchers that don't work.
I usually always get good results when searching Google.

I have to agree with Tank.
I suppose I use G as a first choice for general searches. However I have recently fallen back on Yahoo to find two sites which I knew were there but not visible in G.

I think secret filters, delibrate SEO link building and the promotion of change for change sake is very harmful to the Internet as a source of information. G is the world leader on all these without doubt.

I guess I'm confused. The same search on Yahoo returns the same page from 1999.

Sure, there are news links, but there are those on Google as well.

FERRE....I can't stop laughing over here. My hat is off to you sir.

Also.....I just should have known that someone would come back with a 'Gurgle search suggestion. Baa......baaaa......baaaaa

My point.....you should not have to work hard at finding what you want. (Refine your search? Get real.)

I did the search on Yahoo also and guess what? I did find some stuff from 1999 also, however most of the returns were useful and were in line with the two word request.

'Gurgle did not even have one....repeat one correct return. So it's not the searcher but the search engine....or in 'Gurgle's case a suck engine.

We live in a fast world where time is money and I don't have time to waste on insipid Google games. I've got a business to run. It's not just that "two word" search term that's the problem.....it's the whole 'Gurgle mess. You cannot find the same results on 'Gurgle. Unless you're some type of professor language geek that get's off on figuring out obscure search techniques 'Gurgle is not for you.

If you're one of those Google sheep that still believe in the 'Gurgle God, then you're beyond help and there is absolutely NOTHING that I or anyone on this planet can say to make you change you mind.

To each his own… Good luck 'Gurgling.

See.....I can be nice.

Don't tell me about labor pains.....show me a freaking baby!
