Google Browser on it's way!
More evidence that google are looking to release thier own browser
http://www.kottke.org/04/08/the-google-browser
Google have just registered the domain name Gbrowser.com
http://www.coolwhois.com/d/gbrowser....top_world_news
Theres been a lot of mention of Google releasing their own browser, maybe even as far as their own operating system. It's exciting.

That's all we (web developers, tech support, web programmers, webmasters, etc.) need another browser to support when your application/Web site does not work or when doing pre-release testing to make sure it works in all browser environment.

Google are trying to become the monopoly of the internet world. I can't say I like the idea. At the end of the day, a Google browser would almost certainly be just another form of spyware with "cute" features. Give me plain ol' spyware-free Firefox anyday.

I agree, Brian, but a strong competitor to Microsoft in the browser space could be helpful. Fragmentation of the market could allow one of the smaller guys to grab some momentum.
It does make web design a royal pain in the tush, though. Sure am glad I'm in traffic generation, not design. :-)

I am sure it will take a bite out of IE but it will impact Firefox and Netscape as well. I would think that it would hurt Firefox more than IE because of all the security flaws in IE firefox is getting stronger the last thing they (firefox) needs is another competitor to compete against MS. Google has much more of a brand market than Firefox has so it will be interesting.

I think the major problem all these browsers have is they try
to inject too much company crap into it -- and insist on the
theory the user will go with that. Wonder what kind of user
they want. Not me, because I delete every toolbar after a
few days of testing. The gentle, non-intrusive version would
be to offer a simple branded version of firefox to your clients.

GBrowser would be the ultimate spyware. They would have your personal identification plus they would have the history of every site you visited and all of your favourites. They could use it to find the hidden Internet as Microsoft intends to do.
They must imagine that the GBrowser will see wider use than the Toolbar. No doubt the Toolbar is being used primarily by optimizers. The GBrowser would have a more natural user base. Correlating the data they could spot frequently used popular sites and approach them to host adwords or something.
You can see how they are thinking.

I'm waiting for the mandatory Googlesoft browser, so I can go back to simply watching TV, like in the good ol' days.

This is a good thing!
They are just trying to compete with Microsoft and lets face it the excellent FireFox just hasn’t got the backing outside the geek world.
Most new Mozilla browsers work in a similar way so there only really 2 browsers to code for.

Firefox supports CSS and "other coding for webpages" just fine. There is also a Google toolbar extension for it.

You are 100% correct about the CSS support. If you replace "Firefox" with "IE".

IE supports CSS fine.
But Firefox is more secure.
