Does Google LOVE your site?
As there seems to be a lot of questions and discussions about how to get sites ranked high and tips and tricks to do so, I thought I would add my few pennies worth. I have mentioned this in a couple of place. Hope it helps.
Google seem to love "expert" or "authority" sites. Sites that offer valuable, usable information, as opposed to those sites that just sell various products.....and other "stuff".
Using their relevancy mantra, Google adorns these expert sites with high SE rankings and lower than average PPC AdWords keywords.
So, as a guide, here are the five elements of site that Google is looking for to fall in love with:
- High Quality Content - Useful, relevant, unique
- Lots of it - Pages of the stuff
- Updating Content - Always adding and refining content
- Easy to navigate - Intuitive and simple to browse with useful links
- Status - Reputation gained through links from other quality sites
So are you an authority in a particular field? What do you know that you can share that will add value to other peoples lives? And it doesn't have to be fancy or costly. Just a simple blog will suffice. It's the easiest and simplest way to get going.

Consistent quality is the name of the game. I like how you put it that Google likes "authority" content, although how would you recommend going about making a site more authoritative?

When it comes to google search methods, I think most of us touches in the dark. Google loves expert and authority sites, only if there are many inbound links which points toward them.

I don’t think so, proximity of keyword phrases matters.

- If other web sites prove that
- Wrong
- Only if it’ll be more focusing
- Ok
- Ok

Adding content and updating information regularly certainly does help Google fall in love I notice the difference in the few sites that I manage. One site in particular gets updated quite often (it's a local community site) and Google is there often within minutes of an update and the new pages are indexed and searchable quite quickly - quite often on the first page (depending on the keyword of course!)

Well, for the response to cdl216, making a site more "authoritative" is simply the content.
On two counts. The first is satisfying Google's keyword search criteria that you have optimised you site for. If the keywords are a good match...and the have interweaved the appropriate keywords in the right density throught the site, with links through to appropriate pages, Google will score this highly.
Second, from a human perspective, giving good, expert content that gives good solid information on a specific keyword (or keyword phrase) related subject will keep the visitor on your site longer....and promote re-visits. Something Google also seems to look for. So it's more of a notional aspect - By definition, if you give good, accurate, solid information, you are an authority on the subject, both from a search engine perspective, and in the eyes of the users who visit your site.

Yes you are right. I like very well your very post. You talk about on page optimization and authority, that’s true, but there is something I see you don’t know. Someone from google occasionally goes to inspection personally to a web page to inspect about authority.

The last point is probably the most important. How does google know what is quality content? I don't think it knows. I think it just relies other people linking to your content, and other people linking to those that link to you, making them, 'authoritative'.

That's right, I also dont believe that google is capable of recognizing which content is good and which one's not. Its simply the game of good and high quality BLs.

Google ranks "quality" based on relevant links being passed down from mostly trusted sources. It also bases quality on the code itself. If your website and code is well written, the spiders have an easier time piecing together the links. If your subject on the other hand, such as a blog is ALL over the place then the relevancy will be spread out.
It's good to stay on topic.
