Link Question for everyone
People seemed to be mixed with this and I would love to hear your point of views on linking themed and non themed

Does this really matter or the bottom line is just get links and PR no matter the topic (of course watch out for the "bad" sites)?

Would love to hear your thoughts

if an idea spreads naturally it is likely to have many low power pages linking to it per high power link. getting links here and there from most everywhere is exceptionally powerful right now.

SO exchanging with NON related sites will not hurt your site?
Even if you own a widget company and have computer links on your site is this bad you think?

WHat I see is having your link on non related does not matter but having non related on your sites can hurt your theme?

I am not saying I exchange out with lots of non related sites, what I am saying is that I do not mind if many many unrelated sites link to me.

non related inbound helps. non related outbound may hurt.

Non related inbound links can still have a powerful effect - and i'm speaking from the experiences of this google PR update.

I don't think that non-related outbound links hurt. How about links to directories? They are different to the content of most sites.

I prefer to get links from related sites as they are more useful to visitors than non-related ones IMO. I don't want my visitors seeing links to viagra sites if my site sells computers.

I agree with Buskerdoo, I would except links from all sites. However, try to make outbound links relevant to web page topics.

I am not talking about a single link or two with the outbound stuff. google's technology will move more toward local clustering and if you link to lots of random stuff then it is harder for a search engine to understand what your site is about.

plus it may make you look sketchy to other webmasters if you have lots of linkfarm type links on your site
