google is indexing 15,000 pages but my sitemap is showing 13,000 pages only.why?

My site was with primary keyword coupon codes, having 15,000 of pages

indexing by Google. But when i was generated my site-map i had 13,000 of

pages only.. what about rest of 2,000 pages?

Sometimes this could be a temporary issue with the data centers and when you reach the 10th indexing page you would find the number would decrease.

That generally means that you have more than one URL pointing to the same page, e.g., http://www.yoursite.com/page1.php and http://www.yoursite.com/page1.php?print.

Alternatively, if it's a blog, or a directory, or a forum, Google may be indexing the category names.

Have you used GWT to instruct Google which version of your website you prefer... www vs non-www?

You could have duplicates from both www and non-www urls. You could also have extended URLs with variables that have been indexed... such as:

websiteurl.com/childpage.php
websiteurl.com/childpage.php?a=2
websiteurl.com/childpage.php?a=3&b=something

While these three all go to the same page, they count as specific URLs... and in some cases could lead towards duplicate content issues.
