Is the Google sanbox a myth?

I've read conflicting reports about the Google sandbox, does it exist?

Although there is no direct confirmation of the existence of a sandbox, Google employees have implied it and SEO experts have seen in practice that new sites, no matter how well optimized, don't rank high on Google, while on MSN and Yahoo they catch quickly.

So I will say that according to our own experiences, yes, it exists!

When you launch a new website and after adding contents and links to that you do not notice any Google rankings till some months, you would believe that it exists.

There are many theories, i am saying theories because nobody is sure if it is a fact, regarding google sandbox. Some people believe it to be a myth and some believe it to be true. By the way, i found this link www2.sandbox.google.com/ and i think it really exists.

Yes it exists, but not in all categories, this was confirmed by Matt Cutts. Some industries/types are scrutinised and suppressed on being indexed until they prove they are not just there to spam or flood the index.

Build links and content, prove your worth and you will be listed properly in 3-6 months.

I did not experience "sandbox" for my site. But sometimes it triggered some filters and my site dropped a bit in serps.

Google sandbox is in existence. In general "sandbox" is a phenomenon. You can say it sandbox effect or Google penalty. It is used to observe ranking of web pages that is performed by Google.

No.. but all the new sites launched for some period Google keeping it in separate area or some marking.. on that time no penalization and no ranking.. its almost 1-3 months... so after that Google gives some rank or position based on the site quality and its promotion

Since the algorithm that google uses to analyze different pages involves things like domain age, commerce vs information, quality of backlinks, keyword relevance, etc., there has to be some type of sandbox or filter in place - google has to make choice on relevance in the search engine results - and many of these variables are a function of time.

The more desirable a niche you chose, the longer the 'sandbox'. I've found that for smaller niches there isn't much of a wait at all to get listed well if you do your homework.

IMHO.

I have heard that website age is one of the factors that helps google determine "where" a site is supposed to rank. So it only makes since that new sites rank way back at the end.

Also, awhile back there was a problem with "domain kiting" - go look that up - so the "sand box" might be googles way of dealing with people that kite their domain names.
