Does #1 on Google Matter?

So what is your experience - do you see a big difference in your business/conversions if you are #1 on google or #7?

I've spoken with customers who tell me they always skip the first result because they figure the site is spammy (I guess that's another good reason to pay attention to the page description meta tag )

(I think that the larger the niche the more important it is just to be in the top 10 but I'd like to get other opinions based on what you've seen.)

Once I read somewhere (sorry don't remember where or I'd post the link) that being in #10 spot is good on Google's results because you catch the searcher's attention as they get ready to select the link for page 2.

If get #1 position for good niche .. can see the difference the site will be flying....the #2, #3 also give some good clicks but can see a big difference with #1... I can say #1 give 10 times more than other positions.. almost are clicking in the first sites on SERP.. and if get proper information leaving the next....

Everything depends on the competitiveness of the terms and how many times they are being searched for. As an example, when a term is being searched by people for tens of thousands of times a day, even the sites on third page of Google would be receiving hundreds of page views a day.

For SERP, I would like to say 2-5 would be OK.

#1 = traffic. I don't buy into all that #10 spot etc. But people do read from left to right so they will see your website before the Google Ads.

Not sure but I will tell you what I have seen for my site.

For a KW, my site used to rank no where, then slowly it started to rank better and better. It was on page 1 in top 10 and had few hits only. Then it moved to 3rd place then second and for little while, 1str place too.

I have seen a big difference in traffic, when the site was number one. The traffic boosted when the site was on 1st place and there was quite a difference between 1st and 2nd position.

I think all this depends on the Niche, the KW being searched and quality of sites.

For example, if a person is searching for "Meaning of trend" or such KWs, then the user may not even have to open any site at all as the definition can appear in the description of sites in SERPs.

If a person is looking for solution for a problem and he finds it in the number one site, then he will not go to any other site.

There are many things that influence this matter.

Of course it matters if the keyword has decent search amount.

Just give me any where on the first page and I'm good. Preferably the lower the on the page the better cuz I'll be closest to the next page to click.

Nr 1 increases my traffic but mostly consversions drop. In the end I still make much more money though when being on nr 1 :-)

My website is just over two weeks old and I'm #1 for "cash money gifting" and I don't know how. I just kept releasing press statements,blogging,posting,networking so it paid off. Now I need to get on the first page for "cash gifting" keyword.

#1 get's the best traffic #7 get's way less so less confirmation ...

I hadn't even thought of that. This thread gives a person alot to think about - put your energy into getting all of your keywords into the top 10 vs how hard to work to get a specific keyword to #1.

I guess the next step is to look at conversion, traffic and big sellers to make that decision - perhaps a combination is the best approach.

I have no way of knowing that because the program I belong to gave me a free website and they also host it for me. I can set up tracking in my back office though to track Google Ad Words and other advertising so I'm going to see if I can track a search engine.

If your site could appeared at page 1 it means more traffic.You know most of us only search the first 3 pages, if he could not find what he want, he will change the keyword to search.

In a forum, you may not want to expose yourself like this. Can make your competitors really take you down in the SERP's if the niche is very competitive.

Be careful, protect ya bottom line.

I'm happy to be at number #1 for "cash money gifting"...there are alot of people with Google ads for that search. I'm sure most of it is becasue my domain name has those words in it,CashMoneyGifting, in that order but it also has to do with PR.

Most hosts will have a decent stats tracker that will allow you to see what search terms and what engines brought you that traffic

I don't know who the host is. The program host the site for me for free. I can see how many visitors I'm getting a day though.
