Pardon? Nofollow is generally regarded as being lower quality as it is basically the source of the link telling google that it doesn't trust your site so don't go there from here.
Nofollow links do still have value but it is generally all about follow links.

I'm assuming it helps even though i have no real idea of how much, quantitatively....i also assume that over time, if a thread is important or interesting enough some people out there link to specific threads so some may and will have more value than others.
i've also seen some threads sometimes from forums that i've posted on when i check my backlinks with link:mydomain.com, so google keeps track and there's some value there...

Forum signature links are so invaluable it's not even worth using them to even try to get PR, but rather get backlinks, and even with backlinks they are poorly valued.
The only thing decent about forum signatures is the ability for your link to be exposed to tons of people that could click through to your site.

They absolutely do help. Don't forget you need to do more than that to get backlinks.
Blog commenting, articles, directories, social bookmarks and so on.There is no easy way.You have to work for it.Trust me I know.

The most easiest way to get backlinks is from Forum signatures but so many signatures and all are very different to the topic of thread, i wonder how much it can help.

Of course they help but not so much, because Google like back links from different places make sure your back links are not only from 1 or 2 forums.

I think signature links do not have much [if there is any] impact on PR. These links help to get some targeted traffic plus it helps a site to get crawled faster.
You can see the PR of each thread: then the outbound links on each thread etc. These factors makes these links as: not quality backlinks.

A big yes to that, since PR is mostly about backlinks. And regarding signatures.. well, it still helps but from what I know you only get very little of link juice out of it. You'll even get more juice on blog commenting compare to relying on your signature on forums..
