Hi all, I'm new here so Ill have to jump straight in.
I have searched various forums and found that similar cases have been explained with many of the arguments that I counter below, or have veered off on a tangent as all the information has not been put forward. So I hope I don’t waste anyone’s time by posting as much info as I have, as I realise you are all very busy.
My site
www.dmwmd.com is showing up in the following data centres at position 3 for the keyword:
toddler tops (first word singular second word plural- important!).
• Google tool bar set to search Google US(.com)
• Google.com/ncr
• Google.com/int/eng
An online SERP checker puts it at No 4 on .com and I am getting position 2 on .co.uk…….
Now for some statistics:
1. The Google keyword tool shows 165,000 local (September) and 135,000 global searches per month with the parameters – English – United States – Broad.
2. Some studies/set of statistics from Cornell University and AOL that I have researched suggest that 53% to 54% of searches produce clicks which I would think more that accounts for scores or hundreds of people like me checking their own SERP a few times a day.
3. From these same studies, a site at position 3 is likely to receive 8.4% to 10% of clicks.
Now I do realise that there are arguments about the studies being flawed for whatever reason and that some statistics are for AOL and are old and so on, so I don’t give a high credence to them. But let’s work with the worst case scenario as I always do:
With 53% of 135,000 global searches producing 71,550 clicks, and assuming that out of these, 8.4% click through to my site, I should be getting about 6010 visitors per month or about 200 per day. This is not great traffic anyway but even worse is the fact that I am getting 1 click every other day from this keyword.
No I don’t realistically expect 200 visits a day and yes my snippet could be better but couldn’t I expect better figures than 0.5 per day?
Have I missed something?
Thanks.
