duplicate content|is this a problem

THey guys so I made a blog on blogger, and when you make a new post, it also updates to the homepage. So what I'm wondering is if this hurts your seo becasue of "duplicate content" I don't think it does because many websites with this format rank fine, however I just want to make sure before I start investing a lot of time into this website. THanks for your time and knowlege.

p.s. the main page doesn't show the whole post, just a snippet of it.

Google doesn't penalize for duplicate content anymore, they will just omit it from being shown on the index.

Duplicate content is a myth. If it was real, why do news organizations not get dinged for running the same AP story over and over? Syndication is good.

Google looks at the intent of the content. Natural duplication is not punished, but actual intenional duplication (for example, to get backlinks) is frowned upon. Matt Cutts speaks about this in the Google webmaster videos.

I don't think it would be treated as a content duplication for they are in different context.

It's not duplicate... Duplicate means same article on different websites..

Exactly, if its just within your site, I don't think you need to worry about anything. However, if you plan on submitting it to different sites, its always best that you rewrite it.

I know that google doesn't like duplicate content, but I want to be sure if a website can be penalized in case use duplicate content OR just will be not indexed by google

Its a big problem if google sees that, you can copy but make sure you change something so it won't look the same.

How come a summary become a duplicate?

I don't think you understand the OP... If what you are saying is true, then all blogs have duplicate contents because all posts have summary (at least 10 articles) at homepage.

Hi,

Duplicate content to worry about is only within your own site. If that would be the case outside your site articles dir. would never be listed.

Duplicate content don't make your site penalized but make from your site a "copy without relevant and unique content". And without these things you cannot have good SERPs...

Internal duplication is not as harmful as external duplication issues. And internal duplications means: same content or the same page has more than just one URL. There are lot of sites where 5 to 10 posts [full posts] are shown on the home page and they still rank high. You can see Matt Cutts blog.

You on the other hand have only a part of the post on homepage which is very safe and there I suggest you do not worry about this issue. You can also use the canonical link tag to avoid any major internal duplication issue.

Duplicate content is not good act.If you like some the same content,you can add your own opinion to the content and then post it on your blog,I think this is a perfect way,you are not able to be punished.
