Google Local ranking relies a lot on "citations".
A citation is where your business name and address are mention online by
someone else and yes there is some trust value placed on who mentioned
your business. The easiest place to get these citations are from the internet
yellow pages. Places like citysearch.com, superpages.com.... there are a lot
of internet yellow pages the easiest way to get on the top tier of these is to go to
http://www.universalbusinesslisting.org/
pay your 30 dollars and let them submit your site or just do a search
for internet yellow pages and manually go through them yourself.
Next encourage your customer to give you some reviews.
Yelp.com, judysbook.com.... some of where you should target getting reviews depends on your business type.
The look for local online directory's. The more defined the directory by
category and location the better.
Don't forget to has some user content. Which means somebody has
created a map of/to your business or geotagged a photo.
