Bad links in Google

how long does it take for a bad link to be removed from google? i recently changed my url structure from underscores to hyphens and used mod_rewrite as well. google has ~100 entries for my site, but most of them are no longer valid.

google site: link

thanks,
steve

When you have lots of BL's and your site is spidered frequently it should be in about two months to get all the right URL's in google. Yahoo takes a little longer, I have noticed they still show pages in their serps that are already removed/changed more than 3 months ago.

Heh. Being impatient can make the SEO game tough on the blood pressure. :-)

If you know certain ones you could perform a 301 redirect to propper URL in your .htaccess file. That would reduce the number of 404 errors people will get to your site and over time your urls will straighten out.

I noticed that I shot from ~10 links to ~115 and then have been dropping down to now about 100. I wonder if those invalid links are dropping off.

Just to make sure you are asking about the same thing? Backlinks to your site or indexed url pages?

example:
Code:
site:www.domainname.com
will show you the pages that are indexed by google.

Code:
link:www.domainname.com
will show you BackLinks from other sites to yours.

Google's usually pretty quick about removing old pages when they are being redirected...
