Forums are use to Gather peoples of different opinion on a Specific Niche,

It can be about credit card or it can be about dating... people collaborate ideas and give free opinion about advantage or disadvantage of a related thing, so other get benefits, its only for education purpose,

link directory is promotion of other website, and what you get , you can earn good money by adsense

well , i think google always indexes forum fast, so if you add your signiture on the forum, your webiste will be indexed when the forum is indexed so it is a good ways for your seo

Normally, people use it for backlinks purposes.. but for me forum is the means to mingle with people, connect and make friends.. and possible web traffic :-)

Agreed. Forums are made to help other people about certain problems in the specific topic or niche. Some people just wants to get backlinks and some wants to have both. It is also a place to meet other people share ideas and theories etc.
