Redirect Question

Hi

At the moment i got some links on search engines that i want to redirect to a new direction.

All the links/urls in the search engine have the following format forum.domainname.nl/viewtopic etc-etc, i want them to be redirected to the new url www.domainname.nl/forum

Im on a unix server, and the database of the forum is located in the folder /forum and not in the subdomain folder.

What can i use to redirect those search engine links to the right url.

Regards rik

(not an expert)

So you want to redirect URLs. It should have nothing to do with content right.
Create .htaccess in forum.domain.biz and forward / to ....

Thanks for the reply. Correct it doesnt have to do anything with content just google urls, is there a way you can direct them all in once, dont feel like adding 4500 links in a htacess file.

Im not too familair with redirect issues but I know one solution could be to create a custom 404 page, so if someone were to click on one of your old URLs in the search engines you could direct them to the new forum URL.

I don't know why but 301 redirecting / to target doesn't redirect all subdir's & files.

I want to the same thing. Maybe internal links pages were receiving a lot of pr.

One domain was pr7 before drop (before I caught it). it became 0, but after a while pr3 was restored. Maybe tons of links were deep linking to its subpages. I might be settling for PR3 instead of pr7.

This .htaccess file should do the trick. Just place it in the subdomain.
Code:
RedirectPermanent / http://www.domainname.nl/forum
EDIT: I'm not sure if it needs a trailing slash. I'll test it out in a few days if you like.
