WebAtlas banned from Google

Quote:
If you can't outrank a directory (which is usually a page several levels down, not SEO'd very well) then you don't deserve to be in the SERPS.
You have missed the point entirely.

Quote:
for the people who think buying a directory link is a manipulation of PageRank they may want to delink their post signatures since their posts are nothing more than a cheap attempt at manipulating PageRank
Google has taken care of self-promoting forum siganture links over a year ago. They hold little more than click value.

Quote:
So why are you so focused on directories?
It is likely Google that is focused on Directories. They can easily be identified (unlike a page selling PR) and why would Google ignore Directories just because their are "bigger fish". That's like saying let's not wory about rape until the murder rate drops. Google have the $, geeks and equipment to chase both.

Quote:
Everything that an SEO does is a manipulation
The bad one will focus on "manipulation" but the goods ones focus on Content and Relavancy.

Nick: Threadwatch.org - less noise, more signal. Your post was mainly noise from what I read It also described your own post quite well.

Quote:
I disagree. That might be the intentions of the buyer, but not the directory.
It matter not, Google would be mainly concerned about the "intentions of the buyer". Just like a Gun seller in not sellling murder weapons so the police are mainly concerned about the buyers of the guns. If the buying of PR via Directories starts to make their SERP's less relavant they will take action

Quote:
Brett Tabke once said something like if your selling advertising space or charging for inclusion into a directory, just market it as selling advertising, selling a service etc...not pagerank and you have nothing to worry about
The submites to Directories will not suffer (other than feeling that have wasted $'s) but when/if PR is not their, Webmasters will NOT be so keen to part with their money.

Quote:
Once again..it's been going on since the dawn of the internet.
That is a dangerous train of thought IMO. Things DO change over time.

Quote:
Amidst the arrogance and ignorance I can find little if any useful information
And you thought you would contribute your arrogance and ignorance and make it irrelevant as well?

Shawn, from what I have seen (on many forums) you were laughing at a lot of what people we saying. Now (I thought) you have started to listen and had actually made some of these funny suggestions.

But hey, who can argue with "lol"

I'm just laughing at your I Help You Forums mentality. I think you need to wake up and realize that directories are EXACTLY what google says to submit to. Now, spam directories, link farms, pr sellers etc aren't the same thing.

LOL! Funny, I have no posts on that forum yet you do.

Does it, does is say which ones? Why do you assume that anything that Google suggests will help with Google ranking? That is very arrogant indeed.

It is the last one some Directories will become seen as. Why not be honest as admit most paid directories get $$ from having high PR categories, or the Webmasters perception that their category will obtain more PR. One would have to be exremely ignorant to not see that!

DMOZ has long been suffering the effects (spam) of ignorant webmasters thinking a DMOZ listing is the 'silver bullet'.

It's time to wake up Shawn. He who laughs last laughs loudest

Well, you have beaten me down with your wit and vast knowledge Shawn. I concede, Google likes people buying PR and will reward them at the expense of their relevancy. After all, Google only exists for Webmaster and SEO's why would there care about keeping the SERP's relevant when they can make them crappy and then more will buy AdWords won't they? That's rhetorical BTW Shawn.

people posting is generally not a waste of time. reading the posts is generally not a waste of time. it is a waste of time when:
- YOU post
- people read YOUR posts for anything other than humor value
