My directory stayed the same at 5 but got a good PR filter throughout all the new categories that I created last time since the last PR update. But since the last three updates look more and more that PR updates are comming quarterly now.

During the last update I made a list of all the ones that went down and up and was given a lot of crap for doing so. I did not bother this time to do it. Two off the top of my head are GoGuides and Skaffe who both obtained an increase in the last update and went bact this time. It’s strange since both have doubled their cached pages.

realestate: "I was expecting 8.5 for uncoverthenet, but it looks like there is some punishment due to multiple text. Only its own pages should have created a pr 7-8 for the home page."

The idea that you can create a toolbar PR7 or 8 with just internal pages is a myth. With each new page having a real PR of 1 you would need a very large number of pages (I am thinking 100,000 to 1,000,000 pages) having a link from your home page and a link to the home page. If you did this with a looping link structure with each page in the loop having a link to the home page Google would never index them hence it wouldn't work. To get them all crawled you will need to point some very high toolbar PR links to your home page.

When you vote PR into your site and then add internal pages it does the oppsite. Every page you add to your site dilutes the PR voted in. It just doesn't work.

Here is a few diagrams that give you an idea of what happens to your PR when you start adding addtional pages to your site.

Is anyone seeing any movement in the SERPS? I am not yet, and congrats Shaun!

Glad to hear of the good start to 2005 for many of you.

Perhaps I'm getting paranoid but Google doesn't seem to want to include my site www.modustrading.com in it's SERPs.

Despite maintaining a PR4 and Google showing around 1,400 links, my 4 targetted search terms ....

futures trading
futures trading course
commodity trading
commodity trading course

.... seem to studiously avoid showing my site anywhere.

Nearly all the IBLs used these terms as anchor text but ???

I'd be interested in anyone's opinion on my lack of success with Google.

All the best for the new year,

David.

PR is very inaccurate this time. One of my pages is at top for a competitive phrase among 150k info sites, but pr was 4 and instead of jumping to 5, it dropped to 0.
Also blocked pages got pr5.
--
I assumed uncoverthenet contained 3 levels of categories and every category links ones below it (by definition), and each links to all categories above it.
For each cat there are 100 subcats, unless bottom level. In that case
top page receives ~200k page equivalent pr which is at least pr 7. I may have made mistakes but this is quite reasonable.
If there were no human players it would be real easy to get perfect rank (for people with programming skills and resources, not me )

BL and PR dropped for my sites.

That's weird because actual BL has increased a lot, mostly because of natural, non receiptural links.

My PR went up to 5.
Links stayed the same at 179.

I noticed some of our pages move up a couple of notches. However, they are now back to where they were.

Ditto Dave . Two of my sites had dropped in the serps a couple of weeks back. With this update backlinks went down, PR stayed the same on one site and the other went from a 5 to a 6. We are back up to about where we were before in the serps mostly from the site that had PR unchanged. Go figure.

I'm believing more and more that the Toolbar PR is either useless and/or lagged behind real PR. I have aquired many more one-way links and these show. However, my Toolbar PR has gone from 7 to 6. Despite this, traffic from Google is every increasing.

Edit: Just checked on Google for a keyphrase I target with my home page and notice the 2 pages, which have been #1 and 2 for over 2 years, have now been replaced with 2 of my pages

I wouldnt be too concerned, just keep doing what your doing. It's been noted a number of times on this forum Google appears to have raised the bar. Maintaining a PR6/7 seems alot harder than what it used to be.

Nah, I'm not concerned at all. SERP's position, traffic and content increasing are my main concerns.

One of my sites went back up a point, while the rest just stayed the same. Rankings have improved slightly for the site that gained PR.

My sites have been oscillating between PR 4 and PR 5 in the prior updates. They are now PR 5. I hope they don't update PR for a while.
