Google not caching directories

I am trying to find more places to list my website and have started a directory submission campaign.

However, I am finding that most of the paid directories are poorly indexed by Google and as a result the categories most relevant to me are not cached.

Of the three directories connected with this forum (sevenseek, bluefind and uncoverthenet) only uncoverthenet is well indexed.

I guess you guys have analysed this to death - have you come up with any explanations for google's behaviour (which is not limited to these three directories)?

There is a lot of talk and speculation about Google and the spurt of directories reaching a high PR very quick. That are no facts unfortunately, but as many rely on high PR (or the perception they will) it is becoming evident that many are just PR sellers. These will likely suffer at the wrath of Google in time.

Our company has quite a lot set-aside for directory submissions and we have paid a quite few for single submissions to 'test the waters'. It will be at least 1 year before we will be comfortable paying big $$ to submit many pages and even then we will be very selective and PR will not be a big factor for us.

Hi Dave

Thanks for your reply. For these directories to prosper long term they need to be well indexed and as one of my websites is a directory I am keen to "tap in" to the knowledge that must be being gained with bluefind, sevenseek, and uncoverthenet.

John et al must be thoroughly analysing these websites and perhaps are able to offer advice from what they have learned to date.

I'm not positive, but I believe the directories you speak of paid big $$s to gain their PR and number of backlinks is such a short time. I guess only time will tell if that stradegy will work long term.

Without going back and checking I can't be 100% certain but my memory is telling me that the same is true of the "older" directories as well i.e. not well indexed by google.

Another good thing to check is to see how often the category you want to go under gets crawled but should not be the only criteria. Currently my directory does not go too many levels down this way I ensure that the pages get crawled and crawled often. In fact most of mine get crawled everyday.

Hi smindsrt

Are you proposing that your directory is well indexed because of its limited levels?

I note that the whole UK section of bluefind is MIA even though it is only 1 level down from the home page.

1) Yes and No. Dmoz for example is way to deep and has many pages not cached by Google. I would like to think my directory is well planned out. We didn't add a trillion categories just a little over 3,000. As we grow the directory the categories will of course grow as well.

2) I know it may be a temp. bummer but I have several listing in Bluefind as well. I know John is doing whatever it takes to fix the situation and it must be working I see they have 42,000 pages cached so far.
