Duplicate Content

I think my site was banned for duplicate content. I heard you can get banned. But banned as in what? Bsanned for your keyword? Cause i show up for different search strings but like HIV, nothing even my hiv story which i was like #1 or #2 on google for i dont see anymore. Also if someone can check to see if i am, how long is the ban for? thanks guys. site is http://myhivstory.com in case someone doesnt notive my sig.

You are not banned! Banned sites don't appear in the google cached. Here is a good tool to check for dup. content.

I think you may be having a problem similar to mine. Your site doesn't show up for site:myhivstory.com. I've lost almost everypage from the index using the site: command. What makes you think it's a duplicate content penalty?

I used that tool on 2 of my pages that use a template and they were 55% similar. Do you think that's enough to incur a penalty?

Well i would just collect news articles from different sites and put them all on mine. I put a H2 tag on my site and my brother thinks thats what did it. It should be back to normal soon.

55% should be fine, I have not heard of anyone getting a penalty that they know of for that. I generally shoot for the pages to be at least 30% different. Most sites use the same site structure (navigation bars) throughout and will have similar content which makes it hard.

Duplicate of the page can be a problem, but I don't think duplicate of content can be a problem. Reprints of many articles are all over the web, and they show up in Google index.

I am surprised he thinks that unless your blatantly ripping them off. Many people share or quote articles on other websites.
