Have you ever walked into a room full of strangers and everyone looks familiar?
I designed my first website (1997)on a free hosting wysiwyg editor and was not happy with how it looked so I started learning HTML at a great site for beginners:

It has been a hobby since then. I never dreamed I could make any money doing it.
I designed my first website for a business after my parents bought a motel in upstate New York. The previous owner of the motel thought she owned the domain name, she didn't.
We contacted the designer who had charged her $2,000.00 for a four page site which was nothing spectacular. He said she didn't own any rights to the site as a whole, just the content. He said he would talk to his partner and call me back with a price if I wanted to own it. I didn't.
I designed a new site for the motel and bought a new domain name. When the domain expired, I tried to get the domain name but he wouldn't release that to me either. I waited for it to come off hold but someone scooped it up before I could! Why would any one who does not own the "Panorama Motel" want panoramamotel.com ?
So I designed a site 10 times better than the old one and I work on it all the time. I enjoy it. The motel is a family business and out of came something I love more than any job I have ever done.
As the manager of the motel, I attend the local Chamber of Commerce meetings in the four surrounding towns. I did the website for the Fair Haven Chamber in Vermont, and now I am almost done with another for Granville, New York. I have a couple more jobs from some of the Chamber members.
I live with the love of my life and our children Cullen, 4 and Jocelyn, 2 and when I am really, really lucky my step-daughters come up to visit us. We moved farther away than they are used to and they don't like the four hour drive.
I love this forum. Thank you for being here.
