Sudden Drop in Google Rankings

Hi!

I'm currently having some issues with my website. It's been up for almost five months and slowly moving up at SERPs from time to time.

I've been doing a constant link building, say 20 links a day, then I suddenly lessen the effort to 5 links a day (just 2 weeks up to this day). The links being build is much quality now than before.

My site ranked no.4 last Feb9, then I did some changes in wordpress set up- fixed the number of posts that will appear. That caused to some changes with the code also - but it's considered as part of the process since my site is hosted at wordpress. Now, my site dropped up to 90+ spot.

Is it something to do with my link building, or the code has something to do with it?

Can I ask for your clarifications, opinions and help in resolving this issue.

Thanks,
aira

I'm not sure but I think it's something related to your content and code .

Have you changed the layout of your site? Have you changed how many pages are linking to that certain page you are ranking for? Have you removed the meta tags?

Give us a bit more information as to what you have been doing so we can analyze what you could have done wrong. Have you put any more links on that page that could otherwise lead to unsavory sites? Go through everything you did and see whether it could or couldn't have a negative effect on your page. Although there is a chance that it is an incredibly competitive keyword and that everyone else has been building links like crazy, so your lack of link building recently has really hit home.

Hope this helped!

are you doing things like keyword stuffing? that may trigger a google filter, causing the drop

I didn't actually touched the code. I just chose an option in wordpress that displays a specified number of posts in homepage. However, since it is a blog-type site, the code automatically changed.

The site was last crawled on the date I chose that option.

However, it was just this day that it shifted from no.4 to no.90+.

No keyword stuffing used, no illegal site activities done, no blackhat techniques implemented. and Quality link building is constantly done.

I have sen that earlier too in my site.

It's surely not related with your backlinks.

I don't know exactly why but sometimes i too get best ranking for a keyword 2-3 days and get to the bottom of the list.

May be because Google gives more priority to newly posted contents.

In my own experiences, a sharp drop in backlink would lead to such problems because Google not only care about quality but also for quantity of backlinks, especially for SERP purpose.

Have a nice day,

Well, this week, I think Google changes its algorithm because the Alexa of my site was rapidly going high. From 456,000; now it was up into 273,000. Great right?

It was down for a day after I made a minor change on the site's settings. I was just surprised by that major shift of rankings. Is down-time or site maintenance could affect this?

I guess the changes you made inside the WP Admin has nothing to do with your rankings. Down-time I think can effect your rankings in an instance when the bots crawled your site and can't see it up.

It also has something to do with your content updates and linking. Do you update your content frequently? Why not increase the quality and quantity of your link building campaign? Do some internal linking as well to increase page visibility and better navigation.
